Product introduction

Symmetric filter is designed with equal inlet and outlet channels, while asymmetric filter (ACT) applies distinctive large inlet and smaller outlet channels, the different ratios of inlet to outlet channel width were investigated to determine the optimal structure in practical applications, as well as the effect of soot and ash interaction on pressure loss. The asymmetric filter (ACT) is capable to gain a larger soot capacity, reduce backpressure, and increase potential service intervals.

During the capture process, the asymmetric cell structure has a significant impact on PM capture efficiency. The simulation test results show that the asymmetric channel can guide the PM flow better and make it more evenly distributed in DPF. In addition, the asymmetric cell structure can also increase the probability of particulate matter colliding within the inner wall of DPF. So as to improve the capture efficiency.

 

The regeneration process is an important property of DPF and directly affects the service life. The simulation test results show that the asymmetric cell structure has better performance during the regeneration process. Firstly, the asymmetric cell structure can make the combustion gas more evenly distributed throughout the DPF, thereby enhancing the regeneration efficiency. Secondly, the asymmetric cell structure can effectively reduce the flow resistance of combustion gas and minimize energy loss. In addition, the asymmetric pore structure can also reduce the temperature gradient of particulate matter during the regeneration process and minimize the damage of thermal stress to the DPF

 

Honmat technical team conducted a number of experiments together with OEM customers, it proved that pressure drop sensitivity of different inlet/outlet channel width ratios increases with the increased inlet mass flow rate and soot load. The pressure-drop increases with the increased channel width ratio at the same mass flow rate. In case there is little soot deposits inside DPF, the pressure-drop increases with the bigger inlet; As the filters accumulate soot, the pressure-drop increases more slowly with the increase of the channel width ratio. Ash deposits on the inlet channel wall of DPF structure can prevent deep soot filtration and result in a smaller pressure-drop as compared with no ash cases. All cases show that ACT design filters exhibit lower pressure-drops with increased channel width ratios at high ash load (40 g/L) and soot load (6 g/L). In a word, the ACT design filter can improve soot and ash capacity, reduce the pressure drop at high soot and ash loads, and prolong DPF service lives.
